Kelowna’s Best Coffee Shops
As a writer and a coffee lover, I spend more time than I’d like to share working in Kelowna’s coffee shops. With autumn feeling more like winter in Kelowna this year, we’re sharing our list of the best coffee shops in Kelowna. Whether you’re meeting up with friends, or just looking for a caffeine-equipped place to warm up and get some work done, this list has a spot for you.
The Bean Scene
A guide about Kelowna Coffee shops would not be complete without mentioning the Bean Scene. Since opening its doors to caffeine addicts in 1998, the Bean Scene has grown to become a Kelowna coffee institution with 5 separate locations serving locally roasted coffee and healthy food. Our favorite is the spacious flagship coffee shop on Bernard Avenue for the comfy couches, spacious workbenches, and a beautiful outdoor terrace upstairs. The Bean Scene has additional locations in the Capri Mall, Landmark Centre, Pandosy Village, and downtown’s North End.

Third Space Coffee
Third Space is a modern and spacious cafe serving a variety of gourmet coffee from Monogram, Phil and Sebastien, and Victoria-based Bows and Arrows Coffee Roasters. Every single person working here knows coffee and is passionate about pulling good espresso; I have never had a bad cuppa joe here. They just completed renovating their shop and now offers lunch items in addition to their arsenal of baked goods. Third Space Coffee is located in Kelowna’s Landmark Centre along Dayton Street. It’s a great place to meet with clients, study, or take a break from work on their outdoor terrace.

Cherry Hill Coffee
Cherry Hill Coffee is in the business of wholesale roasting and is hands down the best coffee money can buy in Kelowna. Cherry Hill’s coffee shop and roasting facility is located in the Enterprise Rd. commercial area - a bit out of the way unless your commute runs along the Rail Trail. But if you like the smell of gourmet coffee at home on a Saturday morning and appreciate freshly roasted beans from around the world, do check out Cherry Hill Coffee’s wide range of single origin and blended roasts.

Bliss Bakery
Kelowna’s Bliss Bakery is locally-owned coffee shop in the north end of downtown on the corner of Ellis St. and Cawston Ave. This bright and busy coffee house serves locally roasted Cherry Hill Coffee and some of the best baked goods anywhere in town. Bliss Bakery can get really busy on weekends, but it makes an excellent pit stop on a walking tour of downtown Kelowna. Try their massive Tree Hugger Cookie with your favorite brew, then grab a seat on their sunny patio and watch the world go by.

Pulp Fiction Coffee
Pulp Fiction is a 1950’s themed coffee shop that lives a funky double life as a rare book store. You won’t find any Tarantino references here - the name refers to the stacks of softcover ‘pulp fiction’ novels that line the shelves and give the space a nostalgic feel and unique aroma. With a fireplace, antique section, and tight seating arrangement, this Kelowna coffee feels a bit like Grandma’s living room. Pulp Fiction is tucked away on the corner of Pandosy St. and Lawrence Ave. in downtown Kelowna.

GioBean Espresso
Of all the coffee shops we visited writing this guide, we got the warmest welcome from Gio Lauretta, the owner of GioBean Espresso. This European coffee shop next to Kelowna’s Delta Grand Hotel serves Okanagan-roasted Italian coffee, sandwiches, and fine desserts with indoor seating and a spacious outdoor patio on Ellis Street. After coffee, you're a short stroll away from the beach in Tugboat Bay.

Starbucks
Ok look. Besides Denny’s and 711, Starbucks is one of the only places in Kelowna to get a freshly brewed cup of coffee before 6am without breaking into somebody else’s house. Since they introduced the Blonde roast, not everything at Starbucks tastes like burnt toast. There are a few Kelowna Starbucks locations that early birds and insomniacs will appreciate:
Starbucks at Harvey Ave. & Gordon Dr.: Open from 4:30am with drive through service
Starbucks at Harvey Ave. and Bertram St.: Open from 5:00am with drive through service
Starbucks at the Guisachan Village: Open from 5:30am
